Limestone (calcium carbonate) are used for various construction-related purposes including soil stabilization and modification, asphalt and building construction applications. Quicklime and hydrated lime which are the minerals produced from limestone are primarily used today in soil stabilization for roads, airfields and building foundations, where it upgrades low quality soils into usable base and sub-base materials.
Tirupathi Mines has a broad portfolio of products for use in the construction industry. Standard Quicklime is used in soil stabilization and modification applications. CalCarb® Calcium Carbonate are used in asphalt applications as an anti-strip and functional filler, respectively. Architectural Lime Putty is used in building construction applications as mortar and plaster components. CalCarb® Calcium Carbonate serves as a component in the manufacture of roofing materials.
Calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate are used in waste water, sludge and bio-solids treatment and flue gas treatment. Quicklime, hydrated lime and limestone are some of the most versatile minerals used in industry. These products are employed for acid neutralization, precipitation, coagulation and pH control functions in a wide variety of environmental applications.
The use of calcium products in environmental markets has grown significantly in recent years as regulations have tightened and industry has discovered the advantages of lime — especially in the treatment of waste water, waste sludge, refuse, flue gas and other air emissions.
Waste water streams, whether industrial or municipal, may require pH adjustment and/or the removal of metallic contaminants before they can be discharged safely into the environment. Lime plays a very important role in the treatment of household and industrial waste sludge prior to disposal in landfills or as an agricultural supplement. Lime is also used to treat contaminated soils. Control of sulfur-containing compounds produced by the burning of fossil fuels at power generation plants and industrial facilities is mandated by the USEPA. Lime is used in both the removal of sulfur dioxide (SO2) as well as control of sulfite (SO3).
Flue gas treatment (FGT) has become a focus of electric utilities and industrial operations due to increasingly tighter air quality standards. As companies seek to comply with air quality regulations using cost-effective fuels, the need arises for effective flue gas treatment options.
A variety of calcium-based materials are proven reagents for treating acidic air emissions. The primary categories of calcium reagents used in FGT applications are:
Calcium hydroxide (hydrated lime)
Calcium oxide (quicklime)
Calcium carbonate (limestone)
These reagents have differing characteristics and can be effectively employed at different points in the process. Calcium-based reagents are effective at removing acid gases including:
SO2 – Sulfur dioxide
H2SO4/SO3 – Sulfuric acid/Sulfur trioxide
HCl – Hydrogen chloride
HF – Hydrogen fluoride
SO2 treatment and SO3 treatment are the most common needs for acid gas control. However, recent MACT regulations for utility and industrial boilers are driving dry sorbent injection (DSI) use for multi-pollutant removal situations.
Calcium oxide, calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate products are used in a variety of food grade applications as a raw material, processing aid and water treatment additive. These calcium compounds are vital to the manufacture of many foods and food ingredients which require raw materials with Food Chemicals Codex certification.
Products of Tirupathi's Limestone have set the standard for high quality and high consistency.
They provide :
Calcium oxide and calcium carbonate products are used in both glass manufacturing and fiberglass manufacturing applications. Glass and fiberglass are obtained from the fusion of several inorganic materials. Silica sand, soda ash, calcium oxide and calcium or dolomitic limestone together represent a majority of the raw materials used in the production of glass and fiberglass.
Tirupathi Mines ,Calcium Carbonate product families are critical raw materials in both glass and fiberglass manufacturing applications. The high purity and controlled sizing of calcium products obtained from our limestone have set the standard for these key raw materials.
Precipitated calcium carbonate and ground calcium carbonate products are used in many paint (architectural, industrial and traffic) and ink applications as either a function filler or TiO2 extender. Paints, inks and coatings are versatile and require specific solutions in order to maximize their performance. Without raw materials such as pigments and fillers, performance would suffer. Magnum Fill® and Magnum Gloss® Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC) products are designed to provide optimum performance in coating and ink applications. These products provide:Cost savings by reducing or extending TiO2 use Functional benefits such as improved wet and dry hide Improved optical properties, including increased opacity and exceptional gloss development for semi-gloss coatings The ability to control the crystal morphology, discrete particle size, oil absorption and particle distribution is the key to the high performance capabilities of Magnum Fill® and Magnum Gloss® PCC.
Calcium carbonates are used in both paper coating and as a paper filler, while calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide are used in pulp/PCC manufacturing applications.
Tirupathi Mines Company has merchant PCC facilities located at our Ste. Genevieve site serving paper mill customers from the wet end through the coating operations. The Magnum Gloss® Slurry, Magnum Gloss® Powder, Magnum Fill® Slurry, and Magnum Fill® Slurry product families are designed for both paper coating and paper filler applications. With superior blue-white shaded and engineered crystal morphology, the Tirupathi Mines precipitated calcium carbonate products have excellent optical qualities for all paper-making applications.
Precipitated calcium carbonates are also manufactured in satellite facilities that are on-site or next to a paper making facility. Calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide is required as a raw material for the PCC manufacturing process. The lime is also a key component of the sulfate process in pulp plants where it is used to recausticize a waste calcium carbonate solution and regenerate sodium hydroxide for reuse in the process.
Calcium carbonate materials have long been recognized as both a performance additive and functional filler in rubber and plastic applications. Calcium oxide serves as a desiccant while calcium hydroxide serves as an accelerant in rubber applications. Ground and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) are widely used as fillers in plastic and rubber applications. PCC can also add functional properties in some applications.
Calcium Oxide product family is used in rubber applications due to their specialized purity, reactivity and sizing. CalCarb. AC3, Magnum Fill Powder and Magnum Gloss Powder precipitated calcium carbonates provide a broad spectrum of sizing and physical attributes required of functional filler in plastic applications.
